The workshop provides an introduction to the idea of the foundational economy, the everyday services that are essential to wellbeing. It will then explore how this concept can be used to develop ways of thinking about the objectives and methods of local economic development. The workshop will be interactive and include activities for participants to help connect their own interests and expertise to a foundational economy approach. Examples will be provided of how this approach is being developed and delivered in Wales.

Our field(s) of activity

We are researchers at the university of Manchester, UK. Our research focus is developing the foundational economy approach, including through a wider network, the Foundational Economy Collective. In the last few years, we have worked with civil society organisations in Wales and Welsh Government to connect academic thinking with practice.
